Freefall Marketplace LLC (“Freefall Marketplace,” “we,” “us”) runs a marketplace for buying and selling used skydiving gear. This page explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We've tried to write it in plain English. Questions? Email admin@freefallmarketplace.com.

What we collect

We collect the following, mostly directly from you:

  • Account & identity: your email, a hashed password (we never see it in plain text), username, and display name. Optionally a profile photo and bio.
  • Skydiving profile: details you choose to add — USPA number, license level, jump count, years in the sport, and home dropzone — used to establish credibility in the community. If you list as a rigger, your FAA rating, certifications, services, and public contact details.
  • Contact & location: your mailing address (for shipping), and a general location (city/state) you enter. We do not use GPS or precise device location.
  • Listings & gear: the listings, photos, gear details, and serial numbers you post.
  • Transactions & shipping: records of what was bought and sold, amounts and fees, the shipping address for an order, and tracking information.
  • Communications: messages with other users, offers and purchase requests, support requests, reviews, disputes, and reports you submit.
  • Preferences: favorites, saved searches, and (if you opt in) our email newsletter.
  • Security & technical logs: standard logs such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps, used to keep the service secure and working.

What we don't collect:we don't store your card number, bank details, or government ID (those go directly to our payment provider, Stripe). We don't collect biometric or health data, precise location, and we use no advertising, analytics, or tracking tools.

Why we collect it

To run the marketplace: showing your listings and profile to other users, delivering messages and notifications, processing payments and holding them in escrow, generating shipping labels, resolving disputes, verifying credentials, preventing fraud, keeping the service secure, and — only if you opt in — sending you updates. We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising, and Freefall Marketplace is ad-free.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only with the service providers we hire to help run the platform, only with the data they need to do their job, and only so they can do it for us. They're contractually barred from using your information for their own purposes. Those categories are:

  • Payments & payouts — we use Stripe to process payments, hold funds in escrow, pay sellers, and verify seller identity. Your card and bank details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. Stripe handles that information under its own privacy policy.
  • Shipping & delivery— our label and tracking provider and the carrier you ship with receive the order's name, shipping address, and parcel details.
  • Hosting, database & file storage — the infrastructure providers that run the site and store your account data, listings, and photos.
  • Email delivery — the provider that sends our account, order, and (if you opt in) newsletter emails.
  • Security & fraud prevention — bot protection on our sign-in forms and the security logging that keeps accounts safe.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of our users or the platform, and we'd transfer it as part of a merger or sale of the business (you'd be told first).

If you want to know exactly which companies sit behind those categories, just ask — email admin@freefallmarketplace.com and we'll tell you.

What other users can see

Listings are public (that's how buyers find your gear), along with your username, profile, and general location. Riggers who list in our directory are publicly visible, including the contact details they provide. Buyers and sellers in a transaction see what's needed to complete it — for example, a seller sees the buyer's shipping address. Messages are visible only to the two people in the conversation.

Cookies

We use cookies only for essentials: keeping you signed in (authentication session cookies) and bot protection on our sign-in forms. No advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and profile data while your account is active, and remove it within a reasonable period after you delete your account. Some records are kept longer when we're required to: in particular, transaction, payment, and shipping records are retained for about 7 years for accounting, tax, and dispute purposes, even after account deletion. Security logs are short-lived. Newsletter emails are kept until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

You can edit your profile and listings anytime. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent.

EU/UK users (GDPR):you have these rights and may complain to your local data protection authority. We process data in the United States and rely on our providers' standard data protection agreements for any transfer.

California users (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know, delete, and correct your information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or sharepersonal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of on that front.

To exercise any of these, email admin@freefallmarketplace.com or use our contact page. We may need to verify your identity first, and we'll respond within the timeframe the law requires.

Security and age

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access to production systems is restricted, passwords are stored only as hashes, and payments are handled by PCI-compliant Stripe. Freefall Marketplace is for adults — you must be 18+ to use the service, and we don't knowingly collect data from minors.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we'll post the update here with a new date and notify active users.
